Cake Decisions

My birthday is on Wednesday. I finally decided on a cake. It was one of the toughest decisions I have made in a long time.

I say that to emphasize the difficulty of the decision, not the lack of decisions I make on a regular basis.

First I considered Tiramisu cake. But, I had that last year. I have no qualms about being a repeat outfit offender. A repeat cake offender I will not be.

Tiramisu cake it was not. (It is really delicious though, I’ll have to give you the recipe sometime).

I  next considered Goat Cheese Cheesecake. I firmly believe that everything is better with the addition of goat cheese.

But, Red Velvet Cheesecake was eaten just a few days ago for my sister’s birthday (yes, I said Red Velvet Cheesecake).

Cheesecake was out of the picture.

Strawberry-Lime Stuffed Cupcakes were next considered

Fresh and fruity, these were certainly in the running. In my book fruit > chocolate during the spring and summer. Don’t worry, I’ll give you my chocolate if you give me your fruit.
And your goat cheese. I like goat cheese.

The cupcakes look delicious, but something wasn’t quite right. I was getting somewhere with the strawberry idea though. You see, I actually don’t like cake that much(bashing chocolate and cake in one post, who do I think I am?). After way too much time on foodnetwork.com, I finally made my decision.

I decided on Frozen Strawberry Lemon-Basil Mousse which will be served in pie form.

It’s not your typical birthday cake.

I don’t consider myself your typical birthday girl.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

What is the best birthday cake you’ve ever had? Do you even like cake? What’s the most difficult decision you’ve  made recently? Repeat outfit offender or repeat cake offender, which is worse?

  1. Wow, Ann-Claire! That is quite extravagant. I am so excited to hear how it turns out. You are awesome for doing something different. :)

I definitely agree with the whole repeat cake offender thing. I like to change things up. And yes, I do like cake… but let’s be honest: I’m really only in it for the frosting. :)

Oh, and the best birthday cake I’ve ever had is this Tres Leches cake that comes from this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican bakery in Houston. It is so. good.

    • Well you’re awesome too, because you just are :)
It seems like the little off-the-beaten-path hole-in-the-wall places always have the best food! Can’t judge a book by it’s cover!

  2. Guess what? I’m not a cake person either!!!!! I usually only go for chocolate cake! :P
My mom used to bake giant cookies for my birthday, and last year I had fondue!

  3. How creative! That pie will definitely be memorable. I’m not a big fan of cake! I like ice cream cake that is mostly ice cream. My mom made me an ice cream cake that was mint chocolate chip ice cream, chocolate cake, and chocolate cool whip to frost it. I wish she would make it again because it was just like a thin mint in cake form. Nowadays I just like to go out for gelato on my birthday.

  4. Ann!!! First of all, I hope you had a ROCKIN’ birthday girl!
Goat cheese cheesecake sounds WAY yummy…that’s like my favorite dessert! I can’t wait to see how your pie came out :)

And the best cake I’ve ever had was ice cream cake! Sooo good…

  5. Who doesn’t love cake?! The best I ever made was the ‘Pink Lady’ cake from Smitten Kitchen, but with raspberries instead of strawberries. Such a monster! But to be honest, I’d take any of the options you mentioned, heh.

  6. bashing cake AND chocolate?! To me, a dessert is nothing without the inclusion of chocolate. I have a problem.

My birthday is in 2 months and I’m still undecided. At first, I was going to go with a carrot cake but now I’d rather have something a little less dense..I have no idea what I want to do!!

Can’t wait to see how the mouse turned out (:
