When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
I have an ardent love for kitchen things (fortunately so does Mommy Dearest), so I thought I’d do a little post highlighting some of my favorite things. Not necessarily the most practical things or what I use the most, just stuff that I like and that makes me happy!
My Microplane. Rachel Ray had one, Emeril Lagasse had one, anyone who was anyone on the Food Network had one. Clearly I needed one too. So by golly, 10-year-old me got a microplane. This little guy does a marvelous job of zesting citrus shaving chocolate and hard cheese, and grating fresh garlic and ginger, and, most importantly, it makes me feel cool when I use it
I saw one at a store the other day with a bright green handle and, well, let’s just say, I turned a little green myself, with envy!
Good Sharp Knives. A chopping knife, a bread knife, and a paring knife, the 3 absolute necessities and the key to cooking in my opinion.
Pepper Grinder. If I were to write a list of culinary 10 commandments, Though Shalt Not use any pepper other than freshly cracked pepper would totally be one of them. Nah, you can use whatever kind of pepper you like…..just don’t invite me to your house for dinner. Kidding, totally absolutely kidding!
The Setup
container with fresh garlic, dish with kosher salt, pepper grinder, and olive oil. All my essentials.
Emerson Blender.
Great for soups, sauces, mashed cauliflower, pretty much anything a blender can do this can do, too! But in an easier to clean up manner. I’ve never tried making a smoothie with this, but I’m confident it would work well.

Vegetable peeler. I don’t peel things that often, but when I do this little gadget is a stellar performer. Much better than fancier more expensive peelers. By the way, I don’t actually have all those colors, I just forgot to take a picture of my actual peeler. Works great to make chocolate curls too!
And last but not least….
3 of my favorite servings platter because foods taste better when it looks prettier!
What are your favorite non-appliance kitchen things? What is your favorite kitchen appliance?
I love my mixer and ice cream maker, oh and food processor (indecisive much?)
To all you vegetarians that I warned Saturday about my beef jerky making. No worries, I will not be posting about my jerky adventures. The jerky is fine, I mean I’ll eat it but I’m not that happy with it so I won’t be posting about it. Yay for you, boo for me.
Have a lovely week!

oo i LOVE my new food processor and i LOVE my heart shaped spoons hehe!
What a great post! I love my microplane and Emerson Blender too! My favorite thing I have in my whole kitchen is my spoonulas! They’re perfect for all baking and do such an awesome job scrapping the bowl clean. Favorite appliance in the kitchen? My stand mixer.
Thanks for the congrats
I love my magic bullet, and I always need a good, sharp knife and cutting board.
I can’t believe I left my magic bullet of the list, I love him too! (not sure why I give all my cooking stuff genders)
I couldn’t live without my Kitchenaid stand mixer
It was a complete surprise gift a few years ago from my parents, and I now wonder how I ever baked before I had it!
I got an emersion blender for Christmas this year and have yet to use it–I’m not quite sure when to! I’m glad to see you find it useful though…it gives me hope that I’ll be using it soon enough!
Kitchen tools are always so fun. My favorites are my magic bullet and slanted icing spatula
My favorite kitchen appliance is definitely the Vitamix! And then the Kitchenaid mixer.
P.S. I’ve given you an award! http://tasteforhealthy.blogspot.com/2011/01/thank-you-for-award.html
Glad you found my blog!
I need to invest in some really great knives…any suggestions of brands?
I love my food processor because I am obsessed with making hummus.
Oh man, I just got a microplane for Christmas and I LOVE it. It makes grating nutmeg or zesting a lemon soooo easy. =)
I LOOOOOOVE my Vitamix, I could NOT Live without it. I use it about 3x a day! LOL
I love the color of your teapot, SO ADORABLE!
I have to tell you that ever since reading this post, I cannot use black pepper without thinking of you! Haha, is that super weird? Probably. I guess it’s because I DON’T have a pepper grinder, so it makes me think about how you really prefer one. Lol. I agree, good, sharp knives are amazing! My favorite knives are our two Cutco table knives. I also desperately want a microplane and an immersion blender. They seem amazing!!
Must buy Kelsey a pepper grinder now!! Haha I’m such a pepper snob, huh?
I could not live without my food processor… Even though I just got it for Christmas! I’m not sure how I survived before… I would like a magic bullet, a vitamix AND a kitchenaid stand mixer. Is that too much for a girl to ask for?
